How to Use This Quiz in Class

Before starting this quiz, I find it helps to first review the structure of the first conditional with students. Write the first conditional structure on the board (if + present simple, will + base verb) together with a few example sentences. To check understanding, ask students questions such as, “Which part of this sentence is the present simple?” and “Which part is the will + base verb form?” This encourages students to focus on how the structure is formed before they begin the quiz.

I also find it useful to write an incorrect first conditional sentence on the board and ask students to identify the mistake. For example, If it rained, I will stay at home. Students should notice that rained is in the past simple, but the first conditional requires the present simple after if. Activities like this help students recognize common mistakes and prepare them for the quiz.

Once students are confident with the structure, have them complete the interactive quiz. Students can complete it individually on their own devices, or you can use the fullscreen button to display the quiz for the whole class. After each question, encourage students to identify the present simple verb and the will + base verb form in the correct answer. Then use the printable PDF worksheet for additional practice, homework, or assessment.
