Food Flashcard Activity Ideas

  • Bingo Game
Give each student or pair of students a set of the 16 small food flashcards and have them arrange them in a 4×4 grid. Keep one set for yourself, shuffle the cards, and choose one at random. Call out the card using a sentence like โ€œMy favorite food is pizza.โ€ Students find the matching card and turn it over. The first student to complete a line wins. This is a fun listening game and works well when students are first learning food vocabulary.
  • Speaking Game
Give each student one small food flashcard. Students walk around the classroom and ask each other, โ€œDo you like (tacos)?โ€ based on the food shown on their card. Their partner responds with โ€œYes, I doโ€ or โ€œNo, I donโ€™t.โ€ After the conversation, they trade cards and move on to a new classmate. This gives students lots of practice using the target expressions with different foods.
