Activity Ideas With These Flashcards

  • Whereโ€™s Dad?
Arrange the large flashcards on the board. Tell all students to close their eyes while you draw a simple stick figure of a man on the board and then cover it with one of the flashcards. When students open their eyes, ask โ€œWhereโ€™s dad?โ€ and have them guess by answering โ€œHeโ€™s in the living room,โ€ โ€œHeโ€™s in the kitchen,โ€ etc. Each time a student makes a guess, remove the flashcard they chose to see if the drawing is hidden behind it. The student who guesses correctly gets to come to the front and draw the stick figure for the next round.
  • Race to the Room
Give each pair of students a full set of the small flashcards and have them spread them out on their desks. Students place their hands on their heads to start. The class asks something like, โ€œWhereโ€™s my backpack?โ€ and the teacher replies with a sentence such as โ€œItโ€™s in the kitchen.โ€ The pair then races to be the first to touch the correct flashcard. The winner keeps the card, and the game continues until all cards have been collected. The student with the most cards at the end is the winner.
