How to Use This Odd One Out Game in Class

To play, simply show the video in class. There are 10 rounds, and in each round students must find the emoji that is different before the timer runs out.

This game can be used in different ways depending on your lesson and class level:

  • Warm-up or brain break: Use it at the start of class to grab attention or in the middle of a lesson to re-energize students.
  • Whole-class activity: Invite students to come to the front and point to the odd one out on the screen.
  • Speaking practice: Ask, โ€œWhere is it?โ€ and have students answer, โ€œItโ€™s over thereโ€ or โ€œItโ€™s here.โ€ For higher-level learners, encourage more detail, such as โ€œItโ€™s in the third row, fourth from the right.โ€

If you are teaching feelings or emotions, award bonus points when students can also say what emotion the emoji is showing.
