Ways to Use These Flashcards

Telling the time is a fun lesson to teach, and there are many ways you can use these flashcards in class. Here are some ideas:

  • Four Corners Game
    Place a time flashcard in each corner of the classroom (for example: 1 o’clock, 2 o’clock, 3 o’clock, and 4 o’clock). Give students five seconds to move to one of the four corners. Once they are in place, the class asks, “What time is it?” The teacher then chooses one of the four times at random and says, “It’s three o’clock.” The students in that corner are out and must sit down, or you can let them keep playing with a set number of “lives.”
  • Telling Time Bingo
    Give each pair of students a set of small flashcards from 1 o’clock to 12 o’clock and ask them to arrange the cards in a random order in a line. The teacher also has a set of flashcards and chooses one at random. The class asks, “What time is it?” and the teacher replies, “It’s five o’clock.” If students have that card at the far left or far right of their line, they can turn it over. The first pair to turn over all their cards is the winner.
