Parts Of The House Vocabulary Game

Parts Of The House Vocabulary Game

This activity is designed for English lessons teaching parts of the house vocabulary, including objects, furniture, and rooms of the house. Students will first listen and repeat the names of household items, and then play a fun “What’s Missing?” game. In each round, one object disappears from the screen, and students must guess what’s missing before the time runs out. The simple vocabulary and engaging format make it perfect for beginner ESL learners and young kids.

How To Play This Parts of The House Vocabulary Game In Class

Before the Game

Start by asking students what rooms of the house they know and what kinds of objects or furniture can be found in those rooms. You might ask questions like:

  • What can you find in a kitchen?
  • What furniture is in a bedroom?
  • Where do you watch TV at home?

Doing this before the game helps put the new vocabulary into context and is also a great chance to find out what students already know about parts of the house.

During the Game

Play the video on the classroom display so all students can see it. First, students will see a room scene and hear the names of the objects and furniture. Encourage them to listen carefully and repeat each word. If students need more practice, feel free to rewind and replay that section.

Next, one of the objects in the scene will disappear. Students must look closely and guess “What’s missing?” This part of the game is a fun way to reinforce vocabulary, test memory, and keep students engaged.

After the Game

To follow up this activity, print out these Rooms of the House Worksheets and hand them out to students. These can be completed in class or given as a homework assignment.
