How to Use This Odering Food PowerPoint

Start by asking students about their favourite restaurants and what food they like to order. Ask if they know any English words related to restaurants. This helps activate prior knowledge and introduce the topic.

Next, go through the slides and teach the key vocabulary, including restaurant, menu, waiter, waitress, bill, chef, and order.

Then introduce the key expression What would you like? and the response I would like…, please. Drill the expression using the example slides. First, model the dialogue as a class, with the teacher as the waiter/waitress and students as customers. Then switch roles.

After that, ask students to give their own answers to “What would you like?”, encouraging them to choose their favourite food. Students can then practise asking and answering the question in pairs.

Next, practise the full role play as a class. Then divide the class into four groups and assign each group a role. Practise the role play several times, encouraging students to act it out using gestures (e.g. handing food, writing orders, giving the bill).

Finally, put students into groups of four and have them create their own role play by changing the underlined words in the script (e.g. restaurant name, food items). A printable version is provided on the final slide. End the lesson by having each group perform their role play for the class.
