Future Simple Tense Games
These free classroom future tense games are a fun way to practice the future simple tense with will. They are designed for beginner English learners and are perfect for introducing or reviewing sentences like “I will play soccer” or “She will go shopping.”
Activity 1: Finish the Future Tense Sentence
How to Play
This video activity has 10 rounds to practice the future simple tense with will. In each round, students see a sentence in the future tense with one missing word, for example: “I will go to the (park).” To guess the missing word, students watch as an image hidden by colored shapes is slowly revealed. Students must guess the correct word to complete the future tense sentence.
Variations
- Writing Practice: Pause the video after the image is partially revealed and have students write down their answer before checking together as a class.
- Speaking Practice: Have students call out the answer, then turn to their partners and make a short dialogue using the sentence. For example:
A: What will you do after class?
B: I will go to the park.
Activity 2: Future Tense Telepathy Game
How to Play
Play the video in class and pause when you see the pause sign to give students time to write down their answers. There are 10 rounds, and in each round, students see two sentences in the future simple tense. Both sentences are grammatically correct, but students must choose one and write it down. Then play the video to reveal which answer was chosen. If students picked the same as the video, they score a point. The game is simple, but the suspense of guessing makes it exciting. Young learners especially enjoy pretending to “read the teacher’s mind” and seeing if their choice matches the video.
