Prepositions Memory Game

Prepositions Memory Game for Kids

Make learning prepositions of place fun with this interactive memory game for kids and beginner ESL students. In each round, students see a scene for 5 seconds and try to remember where the objects are. Then they answer questions using prepositions such as on, in, under, in front of, behind, next to, and between.

Prepositions Memory Game โ€“ How to Play

To play, simply show the video to your class. There are 10 rounds, and in each round, students see a scene for 5 seconds and try to remember where the objects are. Then they answer a question such as โ€œWhere is the baseball bat?โ€ using prepositions of place. Pause the video when the pause sign appears to give students time to answer.

This activity can be played in several different ways depending on your class size and teaching goals:

Whole-Class Activity

Play the video for the entire class and have students call out or raise their hands to answer. This works well as a warm-up activity at the start of your prepositions lesson.

Team Game

Put students in pairs or small teams and have them confer before giving their answer. Tip: Encourage them to use full sentences by asking, โ€œWhere is the baseball bat?โ€ and having the whole group reply, โ€œItโ€™s under the table.โ€

Flashcard Race

Turn the game into a flashcard activity by printing these prepositions of place flashcards and giving each group a set. When itโ€™s time to answer, they find the relevant card and hold it up. For a faster-paced challenge, have one student from each group race to bring the correct card to the teacher.
