This activity is designed for lessons teaching the names of the four seasons in English and is suitable for kids and beginner ESL students. In each round, students are asked “What’s your favorite season?” and choose between spring, summer, fall, and winter. It’s a simple game of chance, giving students a one-in-four chance of guessing correctly. Preview the game below, then read on for details on how to play and tips to make it as fun as possible in your class.
Seasons Vocabulary Game – How to Play
To play, show the video in class. There are ten rounds, and in each round, students are asked “What’s your favorite season?” They must choose either spring, summer, fall, or winter. If a student’s choice matches the season shown in the video, they earn a point. The student with the most points at the end wins.
Teaching Tips
This is a “Telepathy Game,” where students pretend to read the teacher’s mind to guess the answer. Of course, they can’t really read minds. They simply have a one-in-four chance of guessing correctly. To make it more fun, you can play along and act as though you’re sending them the answer through “telepathy.” Kids love this roleplay and especially enjoy it when they guess correctly.
This four seasons activity also includes some secret clues to help students guess. Encourage them to watch carefully and try to spot the hidden hints. (Tip: Follow the Games4esl logo throughout the game.)
