Thanksgiving Game – Guess The Thanksgiving Food
This fun activity is a great way to introduce or review Thanksgiving food vocabulary in class. Ten pictures of common holiday foods are slowly revealed, and students must guess what each one is as quickly as possible. You can use it as a warm-up in your Thanksgiving lesson or as a light review activity at the end of class.
Ways to Play This Thanksgiving Game
To play, show the video in class and pause when students are ready to guess. There are 10 pictures of Thanksgiving food to identify: corn, turkey, gravy, pumpkin pie, mashed potatoes, stuffing, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, apple pie, and green beans. How you use the game can depend on your students’ level:
- With kids and beginners: Focus on guessing the food and practicing saying the words aloud.
- With higher-level students: After guessing each food, use it as a speaking prompt. Ask simple questions such as “Do you like turkey?” or “Have you ever tried pumpkin pie?” to encourage students to share their own thoughts and experiences.
