Classroom Object Flashcard Game Ideas

  • Classroom Object Bingo
Give one set of 16 small flashcards to each pair of students. Have them arrange the cards in a 4×4 grid in any order they like. The teacher then uses a matching set to call out classroom objects at random. Students find the matching card and turn it over. The first pair to complete a line—horizontally, vertically, or diagonally—wins. Tip: Use the expression “Where is my [pencil]?” when calling each item, and have students respond “Here it is!” once they find the matching card. This adds natural speaking practice to the game.
  • Four-Corner Flashcard Game
Choose four flashcards and place one in each corner of the classroom. Give students five seconds to pick a corner and move there. Then, randomly select one of the four cards. Students in that corner are out and must sit down. Play continues until one student remains. Tip: Instead of just showing the flashcard you’ve chosen, have students in each corner ask, “Is this your [eraser]?” Then, you (the teacher) can reply “Yes, it is” if it matches your card, or “No, it isn’t.” if it doesn’t. This keeps students using the target language before the result is revealed.
