This video is a ‘Mystery Box’ style ESL game to review the past tense verbs and sentences.
In this ESL activity, students must make a sentence using the past tense. Then, they must choose to keep the box or give the box to the other team.
In the box can be good points (1000+) or bad points (-1000). This game is a lot of fun!
This activity is absolutely FREE. Simply show this video in class from this page or from our YouTube Channel.
ESL Game Past Tense
To play this past tense game, first divide the class into TWO teams.
The teams then take turns answering the question.
There are 10 rounds. For each round, students are asked to make their own past tense sentence.
Then they must choose to KEEP the Mystery Box or GIVE the Mystery Box to the other team.
Inside the ‘Mystery Box’ are either good points (e.g. +1000) or bad points (-1000).
The team at the end of the game with the most points is the winner.
